Say no to racism on the field

A short article on BBC's Sport news reporting about racism on the fields, Dominic Oduro claims the audience chanted racist expressions and monkey noises to him and other black people playing soccer in Costa Rica. I have a hard time understanding what the news article says happened after, it follows;

"Regional governing body Concacaf told BBC Sport that once racist chanting was heard by officials in the 75th minute of the match, the first stage of its anti-racism protocols was immediately followed.

A Concacaf diversity officer asked for a public announcement to be made requesting the crowd to stop the abuse, and it was successful.

Oduro could play in Costa Rica again in the two-legged final as Herediano hold a 3-0 advantage over Mexican side Club America ahead of the second leg of their last-four tie."

It's not clear if the public announcement was made during the soccer match or days after, but from what I can understand Oduro could play again with less racism chants, since the announcement was succesful.

A different news article about the same subject from cba tells the same story except nothing about the announcement, and more about what the racist expressions were. They describe how coins and shoes were tossed on the players.

"CanadianBuzz" comments on CBA's article how the audience's performance should be punished, that no soccer games should be played in Costa Rica for a year. "CanadianBuzz" obviously didn't get the report about how the public announcement made the crowd stop the abuse. If CBA had the same information in their article more people would've known that.

In my opinion, the punishment sounds good for racism, but racism is in every sport, you can't just stop playing games in the racist countries, after a while there wont be a place to play at all, because racism is impossible to get rid of 100%. But if the confidence is there people might stop and start having respect for the players, just to have the soccer games in their countries again. It's a tricky thing to decide wether to go through with or not.
